ECOLABEL is the European environmental certification mark for products and services. In the beginning, this mark of ecological quality could only be applied to products, defined as goods resulting from a production process (Regulation CE n. 880/92). With the issuance of a new regulatory benchmark (Regulation CE n. 1980/00), the field of application of the European ECOLABEL mark was expanded to also include services.
The mark is represented by a flower symbol and its objective is to promote products and services that over the course of their lifespan have an environmental impact lesser than that of similar products on the market.
ECOLABEL is a voluntary market tool, since its use is freely chosen by producers and service providers. It can increase the competitive advantage of those that choose to use it, with the further goal of stimulating the relevant sectors to follow their lead.
At the foundation of this community initiative is the intention to encourage tourist facilities and tourists to respect the environment and safeguard natural resources.
